Beware of unnecessary charges and lack of transparency
I reached out to Dr. Brandy Opal’s office about two weeks ago to schedule my first visit. My appointment was for Monday, October 13th, but the business day before (Friday, October 10th), I received a call saying there would be a $45 charge at my appointment.
When I asked what the charge was for, I was told it was for a periodontal probing—not a co-pay—and that “the doctors like to do them.” That didn’t make sense to me because I’m a new patient with no gum issues or bleeding, and I hadn’t even had x-rays or a cleaning yet. After hanging up, I called Cigna, and the representative from Cigna actually called the office herself. She was told by the office that the periodontal probing was optional.
Fast forward to today, I arrive for my appointment and I’m being told I have to pay the $45 and that they can’t clean my teeth without doing the periodontal exam. I was also the only person in the waiting room and still sat for 20 minutes past my appointment time without being seen. While waiting, I called Cigna again, and they confirmed the same thing — this exam was not required for a first-time patient.
At 12:20 p.m., I decided to leave after waiting and feeling uncomfortable about the lack of transparency. At 12:26 p.m., the office called saying they were ready to take me back—but by then, I had already decided to find a new provider.
It’s not about the $45—it’s about principle and honesty. Patients deserve clear communication about what’s optional versus required. This experience came across as money-hungry and not patient-centered.

This has got to be the best dentist I've ever been to. They are all kinda and caring. Each person is gentle and listens to your needs and complaints with complete understanding. They go above and beyond. They even gave me a lavender cloth to calm my nerves! If you are scared of dental work this is the place to go for gentle care and continued support on your dental journey. Seriously, it's a miracle I even found this place. Thanks y'all!!

AMAZING JUST AMAZING!!! This was my first time getting fillings done. Dr. Gardner had a lot of patience with me and very informative. She would not let me get out of the chair until she was please with the results. I appreciate the courtesy of the staff and the assistant Brittany. Dr. Brandy has an amazing team and I will continue to get all of my dental work at their location. You will not be disappointed with the type of care you would receive. The energy in the office is very welcoming and family oriented.

Currently, in the waiting room. I had an 11:30a appointment. THEY CALLED ME to come in for 11a. Ever since I’ve walked in nobody has been in the waiting room. It is now 11:42a as I am making this review and still waiting. What was the point of calling earlier and inconveniencing me just to sit here until my initial appointment time anyways . There so slow it’s sad. I just hope when I get back there they don’t mess my teeth up. Smh. Our people have to do better .

Dr. Brandy and her staff are very loving and kind to me and my daughter! They make people feel welcome. And unlike other dentists, they all actually give that personal one on one dental interaction with all the patients. That’s why there is sometimes a longer wait because they are NOT rushing people in and out. They all help and educate patients on their dental health. This is the type of dentist I love to come to!!! I have seen them work with patients that they have known for many years. I always feel warm and like apart of the family here!!!
